I really enjoyed reading about this article because I think that it is important to learn about art history especially the many different mediums of art including digital art. It is one thing to learn about who painted what, at what time, and where but learning about the cultural significance of the art created and what was happening at the time the art was created is very interesting. I specifically liked the part in the article that talks about the phone booths and how multiple phone booth numbers were posted to the internet and people browsing were invited to call them. I think that concept is super interesting despite the small amount of attention it received from the article. I also think that the shredder and landfill webpages were very interesting and I spent quite a bit of time playing around with them. I appreciate this article for linking the webpages so we as a reader could also follow along and engage with the digital art as it was designed. This was particularly true for viewing the “M@” desktop and Rachel Bakers desktop. I think that being able to see particular desktops is an interesting concept because these computer desktops are often very intimate and personal but they can also be displayed as anonymous. I would love to see something like this today where people post their desktops in the same place because it would be cool to see the differences given the amount of customization today. This concept of the internet being forever is super interesting because it allows us to view artistic webpages of the past that have potentially been abandoned and left.
